Justin’s mom, Sandy, is in town for a visit with his sister, Amy. We headed down to La Bufadora in Ensenada, Mexico for lunch and to see the Bufadora, of course. It’s actually pretty awesome. We’d heard it was kind of lame — often pretty tame and quiet, but today is was roaring and spraying everywhere. It’s a cove/cave/inlet in a ravine that the wave hits. You hear a roar and then the wave sprays about 50-100 feet into the air. So, we were happy that it was actually roaring so nicely today. And then, to top it off, thanks to the swine flu warnings, the whole city was basically deserted, so we had the place to ourselves.

This swine flu warnings are really affecting all the Mexicans down here. They say it’s all political and I tend to agree with them. The swine flu seems to have been blown out of proportion — although we’ll see as the fall flu season hits. Anyway, it made for a very nice, relaxed afternoon, but I felt so sorry for the poor folks down here that are desperate for tourism. I bargained a lady down on a bracelet for Violet. I wasn’t really trying to drive a hard bargain, I just didn’t know if we really wanted it bad enough to pay $3 instead of $1.50. We finally got our price because she was desperate for the sale, but after we paid I commented on the little girl running around the back, she beamed as she told me her name was Elisabetta and that she was two. I put myself in her shoes and felt selfish. What if that was the only sale she made today and I had to quabble over a dollar fifty? I’ve been feeling bad all evening. Next time…

Other than that, the Bufadora was definitely worth the trip. Jude got cranky in between waves. He just didn’t understand why the entertainment wasn’t consistent. And Violet? Well, she talked Grandma into scaling the mountain behind us over and over again. God bless Grandma Bruni. She was tireless. Are you ready, mom?

Yeah I am starting to ‘feel’ for the grandma’s especially. I know that my 4 girls are already discussing all that they are going to want to do with Grandma. I hope mom is ready for it too. I had to explain to them that not all grandparents (or in this case of them visiting their Great Grandparents soon), have the stamina to keep up with the rowdy youngsters. I know that for one thing Olivia, Kiona and Valorie are collecting all their art supplies and sharpening pencils/color pencils in preparation to ’show off’ to Grandma. Mom, if you read this, just be ready with your prize money. :) Or having prizes in the form of ’stickers -of all sorts-’ work too. We are so looking forward to seeing you soon.

I buy things I don’t need so badly at the flea market. I have some old friends that are just trying to exist and I feel so bad for them. One guy, John Smith, used to have extensive greenhouses in E. Texas- before the intrusion of Walmart- and now he and his wife are in such poor health. He keeps coming to the FM every week with his beat up pick up truck full of plants for sale He has a small operation. That area, a town called Cut and Shoot (can you believe that name?) gets pounded by hail so often so his plants are survivors. We all pitch in to help him unload. My backyard has all kinds of stuff from John. I had to put in raised beds to accomodate the eggplant. mint, okra etc. I have learned so much from him. I call my garden John’s Spot.
    You never lose by giving!
